The Original 300

Judges 7:2

"The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her..."

This is the original 300! This isn't about Israel and her might, that has fairly been established early in the Book of Judges. This is about God and His will. Even at the height of Israel's conquest of the Canaanite lands (Book of Joshua), God made it clear in His promises that Israel's victories will be a result of them being chosen and that God chose them because of His love and sovereign prerogative to do so according to His will.

Deutronomy 7:7-8

"The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt."

Father, You chose us not because we're good, intelligent, strong, organized, rich, influential, talented or anything else for that matter, but because you loved us first and gave these gifts to us. Help us to use our blessings and multiply them for service to Your Kingdom and for us to share with the world ultimately pointing to Your Glory and awesome grace!
