Shall Not the Judge of All the Earth Do Right?

Judges 9:56-57

"Thus God repaid the wickedness that Abimelech had done to his father by murdering his seventy brothers. God also made the men of Shechem pay for all their wickedness. The curse of Jotham son of Jerub-Baal came on them."

We may not always see God's Justice due to our finitude, but God works actively in human affairs for the overall good because He is All-Good, All-Loving and just. Most complain that there is so much evil out in the world (happening to 'good' people, moreover), and that God seems to have lost control over the world we live in today. That is always easy to say when you are right in the middle of it all, too caught up in the situation we are all in. I am inclined to think that is confused at best, and charlatanry at worst. We put our faith in God because He is trustworthy, it is His nature to always do that which is right and just, that our finite minds may not be able to perceive, let alone comprehend.

Secondly, we tend to call out so much about the evil out there and yet somehow blind to the evil that is within us. The thin line between good and evil runs across the heart of every person — it is in Hitler's heart, Stalin's, Mao's, Abimelech's and mine. Only through Christ's Resurrection and the Ministry of the Holy Spirit through the Father's awesome Grace we are able to transcend our nature and tendencies.

Genesis 18:25
"That be far from Thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
