Stars Align
Judges 5:20-22
"From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera. The river Kishon swept them away, the age-old river, the river Kishon. March on, my soul; be strong! Then thundered the horses' hoofs--galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds."
There is something much more that affects our material experience than nature just as it is.
To quote the Living Life writer:
"These verses suggest that although the Israelites fought the battle with their hands and feet, the LORD also fought for Israel through the forces of nature. Not only did the LORD fight for His people through nature.."
Our all-powerful and sovereign God, not only uses unexpected persons for His purposes but also commands his majestic creation, to will His purposes in human affairs.
This reminds me of an event in history (1812) when unexpectedly, its harsh winters came in early and saved an army from destruction and a nation from invasion. Some suggest that czar Alexander I's repentance and coming back to Christ having prayed for Russia's salvation averted Napoleon's advance into the East. The Lord sent a minor prophet, the winter, to diminish the 400,000 French Grand Army down to a demoralized, hungry and miserable 100,000.
Job 37: 5-13
"God thunders with His voice wondrously, Doing great things which we cannot comprehend. For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’ He seals the hand of every man, so that all men he has made may know his work, he stops every man from his labour. Then the beast goes into its lair, and remains in its den. Out of the south comes the storm, and out of the north the cold. From the breath of God ice is made, and the expanse of the waters is frozen. Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud; He disperses the cloud of His lightning and it changes direction, turning around by His guidance, That it may do whatever He commands it on the face of the inhabited earth. Whether for correction, or for His world, or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen."
Napoleon Bonaparte himself gave his life to Christ genuinely in his later exile (1820): "I will tell you. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself have founded great empires. But our empires were founded on force. Jesus alone founded His empire on love, and to this day millions would die for Him. I think I understand something of human nature, and I tell you, all these were men, and I am a man, but Jesus Christ was more than man."
