Any One
Judges 11:1-3
"Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, but he was the son of a harlot; and Gilead begot Jephthah. Gilead’s wife bore sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out, and said to him, “You shall have no inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.” Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of Tob; and worthless men banded together with Jephthah and went out raiding with him."
No matter what we do, or how we perform in the present, people look to our past and associate us with circumstances that we have very little control of — our parents, our family, race, ethnicity, sex, nationality, physical deformities and appearance. Not that we do not do such ourselves, we all have those tendencies, it's human nature and deeply ingrained in various global cultures throughout history and in the present. But that's how counter-cultural the Christian God, the One True God, is. Each individual is special. Each one who loves God and seeks Him earnestly, is a prince/princess of His Kingdom and has a part in His inheritance, wherever s/he may come from. And God can use anyone, from whatever background, such as Jephthah's to accomplish His Good purpose. He raised up Joseph in a desert to use him in a palace and then he raised Moses in a palace to use him in a desert. The scaffolding of nations built on the idea of liberty and equality stands on the fact that God said that we are all of equal worth and possess rights inherent in our humanity, endowed by our Creator. And how wonderful it is that at the pinnacle of this idea is Jesus Christ Himself — His life, His ministry and His Good News to the extent of 'leaving the 99 sheep for one', any one. How radical and earth-shaking is Christianity's message in this sense — the abolition of elitism in human worth in virtually all levels that make up society vis-a-vis belief systems in which the goal is to dissolve your individuality in 'oneness' with a deity and gods associated with only the elites in society. Sadly, even the Christian tradition is marred by much inconsistency in applying such revolutionary principles after the early Church, although, until now we continue to struggle, by the Grace of God, the Power of the Holy Spirit and the Resurrection of Christ, the foundation has been laid and we must rest on it even more so.
Galatians 3:26-28
"For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise."
