The Narrow Gate
Luke 23:26
"As the soldiers led Him [Jesus] away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus."
"Abide with me, fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee;
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.
"Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away.
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me."
I'd also like to echo the prayer in the Living Life devotion, this is a prayer not for an easy life, but for strength and courage to thrive in "extreme" discipleship, the norm of Christian living as we say it at FCBC, it is taking the narrow gate (Matt 7:13–14)— the proverbial road less traveled, that makes all the difference [Robert Frost]: "Lord Jesus, please increase my delight in the privilege of carrying my cross and following You, even when it leads down uncertain paths. Help me to walk in Your footsteps. In Your name. Amen."
