For God Did Not Send His Son to Condemn
Luke 22:14–18
"When the hour came, Jesus and His apostles reclined at the table. And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” After taking the cup, He gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
Time and again the Bible speaks of a cup of wrath which will be poured out against sinners. It is a cup filled to the brim with the perfect wrath of a perfectly just God (Psa 75:8, Rev 16:19, Jer 25:15, Isa 16:17). The cup of wrath was ours to drink, but in an unimaginable act of compassion, God chose to intervene and take our wrath upon Himself. The Son almost didn't want to drink, He asked if it be taken away from Him (Mark 15:36), but because of love, He asked for The Father's will instead: "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him (John 3:17)."
