Man of Sorrows
Luke 22:63–65, 70–71
"The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating Him. They blindfolded Him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” And they said many other insulting things to Him… They all asked, “Are You then the Son of God?” He replied, “You say that I am.” Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from His own lips."
"Man of sorrows Lamb of God;
By His own betrayed.
The sin of man and wrath of God;
Has been on Jesus laid.
Silent as He stood accused;
Beaten mocked and scorned.
Bowing to the Father's will;
He took a crown of thorns."
How awful, and the irony of ironies. In our ignorance, in our sin, we abused the very Son of God. This is God's ultimate sacrifice to be put into the hands of the wicked and be humiliated and finally to be killed. According to what standard of religious justice is He on trial? The foundations of which rests in God. Ah yes, "God madeHhim who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God (II Cor 5:21)."
"Sent of heaven God's own Son;
To purchase and redeem.
And reconcile the very ones;
Who nailed Him to that tree."
