Gold
II Chronicles 3:4–10
“The portico at the front of the temple was twenty cubits long across the width of the building and twenty cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold. He paneled the main hall with juniper and covered it with fine gold and decorated it with palm tree and chain designs. He adorned the temple with precious stones. And the gold he used was gold of Parvaim. He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls. He built the Most Holy Place, its length corresponding to the width of the temple—twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. He overlaid the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold. The gold nails weighed fifty shekels. He also overlaid the upper parts with gold. For the Most Holy Place he made a pair of sculptured cherubim and overlaid them with gold.”
Everything in the Temple of the LORD built by king Solomon was overlaid with pure gold. God is our precious treasure! The LORD Jesus spoke of God’s heavenly kingdom, and compared it to finding treasure in a field and selling everything else in acquiring the place where the treasure is hidden: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and in his joy he went and sold all he had and bought that field (Matt 13:44).” Indeed friends, nothing is as invaluable as finding Christ and dwelling in His kingdom, it is what Job said in finding precious wisdom, “no one can know its value, nor is it found in the land of the living (Job 28:13).” It is found in the eternal Spirit of God, sought in prayer and righteousness (Matt 6:33), abiding in God’s love in Jesus Christ, a place of pure and complete joy in His presence, let us remain there: “As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love. I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete (John 15:9–11).”
