Lavished On Us

Psalms 105:37–45
“He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them. He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. They asked, and He brought them quail; He fed them well with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert. For He remembered His holy promise given to his servant Abraham. He brought out His people with rejoicing, His chosen ones with shouts of joy; He gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for—that they might keep His precepts and observe His laws. Praise the LORD.”

God sustains us as He had sustained Israel from Egypt (from the bondage of sin), into the wilderness (our pursuit of holiness, separateness from the world, struggles with transitioning from our sinful lives), and ultimately into the promised land (sanctification). God provides for each one of us just as He did with them as a nation—giving them all they need (bread, water, shelter and protection) and even what they desired (meat, jewellery). The Bible tells us that “in Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And He has made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ (Eph 1:7–9)”, yes, in the end, God does all these for us for a purpose, that we may draw near to Him, that we may he conformed only to His image, the image of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, to keep the glorious flames our relationship with Him burning all the days of our lives and into eternity, and we do so by keeping His precepts and observing His laws (v. 45). Indeed, brothers and sisters, praise the LORD today, experience Him, this week!
