Who Will Trust You With True Riches?
Luke 16:8–13
"The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own? "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."
The Bible affirms that the love of money is the root of evil. We must ensure that our resources do not become our idols and the source of our confidence in life or we may fall into its many sorrows (I Tim 6:10). It is simply means to various ends, and so let's guard ourselves and be conscious that our treasure and our hearts are in the right place (Matt 6:20-21). We are also called to be prudent in dealing with our God-given blessings and in many areas of our lives, and in dealing with the world, we ought to be wise (shrewd) as serpents and gentle as doves (Matt 10:16) since we are still in, though not of it (John 16:14-15). We use self-control, good judgment, talents, and skills to glorify God and usher in His Kingdom. Please grant us wisdom, and a discerning heart everyday Father, from the smallest of things to the great ones that You have entrusted us with. Amen.
