God of Generations

I Chronicles 4:7–10, 38–43
“The sons of Helah: Zereth, Zohar, Ethnan, and Koz, who was the father of Anub and Hazzobebah and of the clans of Aharhel son of Harum. Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request… The men listed above by name were leaders of their clans. Their families increased greatly, and they went to the outskirts of Gedor to the east of the valley in search of pasture for their flocks. They found rich, good pasture, and the land was spacious, peaceful and quiet. Some Hamites had lived there formerly. The men whose names were listed came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites in their dwellings and also the Meunites who were there and completely destroyed them, as is evident to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks. And five hundred of these Simeonites, led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, invaded the hill country of Seir. They killed the remaining Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.”

Living Life started on a new book today after the end of the Acts of the Apostles yesterday (chapter 28). Today, it’s from I Chronicles 1:1–4:43 a long read filled with genealogy. I quoted the last parts and in summary, what this teaches me is of God’s faithfulness from generations to generations. The Bible says God will also take care of our family, so let us continue to have faith and never hive up: “The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!” The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household (Acts 16:27–31).” Today, also, we see God grants us success and He enlarges our territory (v. 10) when we find favour in His eyes, that’s because He favours His beloved Son whom He sees in us. May God bless us all and may we find like the “rich, good pasture, and the land that’s spacious, peaceful and quiet (v. 40).” We can trust God completely for salvation and for blessings in His presence. Let us walk with our Father daily and enjoy His company. Let us pray, “Dear God, thank You for Your faithfulness and for always fulfilling Your promises. When I am tempted to doubt and worry, remind me that I can have complete faith and trust in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
