Fresh & Firm Foundation

1 Corinthians 3: 10-13

"By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work."

Back in the days prior to Christ, the foundation is righteousness before God through ritual observance of the Law and human effort. This kind of foundation is wanting compared to Jesus Christ. Paul assures us now that building foundations carefully means laying everything at the Cross where Jesus died for us. And that as God tests us through the Holy Spirit we are saved and covered in the spotless Blood of Christ blameless before God and sanctified by abiding and walking with Jesus. A final and perfect foundation, God, in His great love and mercy, provided us. No longer can the Enemy and the wicked destroy, and this has enabled us to live out Christ's character and righteousness, overcome our sinful human nature and pass, with flying colours, God's examination by Refiner's Fire, like never before.

Psalm 11:2-5
"For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion."
