The Explanation of Existence

I Chronicles 16:23–31
“Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendour and majesty are before Him; strength and joy are in His dwelling place. Ascribe to the LORD, all you families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before Him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness. Tremble before Him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!”

God is most real above everything we know and see (and those we don’t), and He imparts reality to everything in the universe from nothingness—creatio ex nihilo. Everything that exists has an explanation either in the necessity of its nature or an external source; for the universe, that external source is necessarily outside of itself, non-material, timeless, spaceless, God is the ultimate cause and explanation of our existence. Recently (2013), there has been a landmark discovery in the field of particle physics, the experimental confirmation of the Higgs boson, an elementary particle that transforms energy into mass coupled with other particles. The running quip is, ‘the Higgs boson walked into a Catholic Church’ (gave them mass). In the media the Higgs boson has often been called the "God particle", but the nickname is strongly disliked by many physicists, including Dr. Peter Higgs himself, who regard it as sensationalistic and that the Higgs field does not create mass out of nothing, which would violate the law of conservation of energy, nor is the Higgs field responsible for the mass of all particles. Sisters and brothers, only God, in His splendour, caused the initial conditions of the material universe, the amount of energy conserved that translates into mass, and its low entropy at the very beginning; it is “the only wise God” (Rom 16:27) who created this elaborate system of fundamental particles that compose our reality and He is the marvellous Law-giver who wrote its code “in the language of mathematics” (Galileo). It is Christ. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together (Col 1:15–17).” He reigns (v. 31)! To Him be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all time, and now, and for all eternity. He is our saviour and it is Him who is able to keep us from stumbling and to present us unblemished in His glorious presence, with great joy (Jude 1:24-25)! ‘Ascribe to the LORD’ (vv. 28-29), this is all His authorship and ownership, the universe is His and everything in it (Psa 24:1)!
